IT facilities
New, state-of-the-art technology is used throughout the
building with interactive teaching at the forefront of the College
ethos.
Most classrooms have an interactive whiteboard and projector.
Video and DVD clips are shown via the network and plumbed right
into the classrooms so no televisions or other equipment have to be
booked and wheeled across the campus.
More than 30 plasma screens keep students up to date with the
latest College, regional, national and international news,
including a massive screen in the reception area.
Student ID cards are of a whole new dimension - they allow
students access to public areas and then specific areas to the
courses they are enrolled on. When the students enter a classroom,
the register is automatically taken by a sensor at the door.
Students are also able to report absence electronically as
well.
Safety has been increased by greater CCTV provision as well as
'real-time' recording and monitoring (like Sky+) so incidents can
be reviewed while still recording. All College equipment has been
SmartWatered too.
There are many Wi-Fi hot spots dotted around the College with
plans to set up more meaning easy access to the Internet and other
resources.
Any network point also has the capability to become a camera
or telephone point to give huge flexibility.
The College has also recently taken delivery of a new piece of
technology which could revolutionise the
way students are taught. It could allow students to watch lectures
live over the Internet or even download missed lectures to their
MP4 players.
There is also access to multi-function printers which can
scan, print and copy.
