Intermediate Apprenticeship in
Accounting
Apprentices learn on the job, building up
knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all
at the same time.
What will you do?
You will do work-based training with an
employer. You will be paid a wage. Your apprenticeship will
involve working towards a Vocational Based Qualification
(QCF), Functional Skills as described below:
What are the entry requirements?
You will be assessed before entry to the
Apprenticeship at Level 2 Accounting programme to ensure your
suitability for the course, the occupational sector and your
potential to achieve the outcomes.
What job will you do?
Accounting skills are in demand by commercial
and industrial organisations, central and local government, the NHS
and the voluntary sector, as well as by specialist accounting
firms. Roles broadly encompass recording and accounting for cash
and credit transactions and recording payroll transactions. Job
titles may vary across sectors and organisations but
are likely to include:
- Accounts Clerk/Accounts
- Assistant/Finance Assistant
- Cashier
- Credit Control Clerk
- Data Input Clerk
- Payroll Officer/Wages Clerk
- Purchase Ledger Clerk
How long does your apprenticeship take to
complete?
The Apprenticeship at Level 2 in Accounting is
normally completed in one year.
What opportunities are available
afterwards?
Progression to the Advanced Apprenticeship in
Accounting is possible if you have the potential. This includes an
NVQ Level 3 in Accounting, after which people generally specialise
in one of the sub sectors of accounting such as accounting
practice, industry and commerce or public sector.
Professional institutions exist for
accountants at both senior and technician level. Each requires
specific education and training targets to be completed before full
professional status is obtained. There is a range of
accountancy and finance related diplomas and degrees offered by
higher education institutions.
