Apprenticeships in Construction

You will learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the same time.


WHAT WILL YOU DO?

You are employed.  You will work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Technical Certificate and Key Skills.

 

WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

You should have the potential to achieve the requirements of the framework.

 

WHAT JOB WILL YOU DO?

An apprentice will work in their chosen craft on a construction site:

  • Brickwork
  • Plumbing
  • Plastering
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Joinery
  • Shopfitting

 

HOW LONG WILL MY APPRENTICESHIP TAKE TO COMPLETE?

The apprenticeship ends when you complete all necessary components.  It takes approximately 2 years for Level 2 qualification.  You will be required to attend college for 1 day a week or on block rotation depending on your craft.

 

WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE AFTERWARDS?

On successfully completing your apprenticeship, you could progress to Level 3 in your chosen craft, or to other technical or supervisor occupations within construction.

The skills and knowledge you will acquire are highly transferable and there are many opportunities for you to develop your career in this sector.  You may also go on to achieve other, higher level qualifications.

 

Qualifications required as part of the Apprenticeship Framework

 

NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION (NVQ)

You will be required to complete an NVQ

 

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE

You will be required to complete a Technical Certificate

 

KEY SKILLS

You may be required to complete Key Skills. You will discuss your individual needs with your employer and college representative
