Apprenticeship at Level 2 in Vehicle
Maintenance and Repair
Apprentices learn on the job, building up
knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all
at the same time.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You will do work-based training with an
employer. You are paid a wage. The apprenticeship will involve
working towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Key
Skills and a techncial certificate.
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
You will be expected to achieve a minimum of
GCSE Grade D in English, Maths and a Science-based subject.
WHAT JOB WILL YOU DO?
The Vehicle Maintenance & Repair suite of
qualifications includes the following common tasks in each career
route: removing components; assessing components for wear and
serviceability; replacing components and testing after repair.
HOW LONG DOES YOUR APPRENTICESHIP TAKE TO
COMPLETE?
All career routes require a high level of
practical skill and a degree or problem-solving ability, especially
Auto Electrical. To achieve the skill level and knowledge
required in this area you will probably attend college on either a
day or block-release basis over the apprenticeship period, which
might be expected to last two years.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE
AFTERWARDS?
After successful completion of an
Apprenticeship at Level 2 you can be considered for an Advanced
Apprenticeship in Light Vehicle, Heavy Vehicle, Motorcycle or Auto
Electrical.

NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
(NVQ)
You will need to achieve the following NVQ at
Level 2
- City & Guilds Vehicle Maintenance and
Repair: Light Vehicle
TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE
You will need to achieve:
- City & Guilds Progression Award in
Automotive Vehicle Servicing and Repair Level 2: Light Vehicle
Maintenance
KEY SKILLS
You will work to achieve the following Key
Skills
- Communication Level 1
- Application of Number Level 1
- Information Technology Level 1
You will discuss your individual needs with
your employer and college representative
