Apprenticeships in Construction
You will learn on the job, building up
knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all
at the same time.
What will you do?
You are employed. You will work
towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), Knowledge Based
Qualification and Functional Skills.
What are the entry requirements?
You should have the potential to achieve the
requirements of the framework.
For the plumbing apprenticeships you
must have a minimum of GCSE Grade C in Maths and English. If these
certificates are more than 5 years old from the date of issue, then
you must achieve an initial assessment here at college of no less
than level 2 in both subjects.
What will you do?
An apprentice will work in their chosen craft
on a construction site:
- Brickwork
- Plumbing
- Plastering
- Painting and Decorating
- Joinery
- Shopfitting
How long will my Apprenticeship take to
complete?
The apprenticeship ends when you complete all
necessary components. It takes approximately 2 years for the
Intermediate Apprenticeship. You will be required to attend
college for 1 day a week or on block rotation depending on your
craft.
What opportunities are available
afterwards?
On successfully completing your
apprenticeship, you could progress to Level 3 in your chosen craft,
or to other technical or supervisor occupations within
construction.

The skills and knowledge you will acquire are
highly transferable and there are many opportunities for
you to develop your career in this sector. You may also
go on to achieve other, higher level qualifications.
