Apprenticeship at Level 2 in
Engineering
Apprentices learn on the job, building up
knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all
at the same time.
What will you do?
You will do work-based training with an
employer you are paid a wage. Your apprenticeship will
involve working towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ),
Key Skills and a technical certificate as described below:
What are the entry requirements?
There are no specific entry requirements for
this Apprenticeship. However, you should be able to
demonstrate the potential to achieve NVQ Level 2, Key Skills at
level 1 and a technical certificate.
What job will you do?
You are likely to be employed as one of the
following:
- Maintenance Craftsperson
- Machinist/Toolmaker
- Welder/Plater/Fabricator
- Engineering Assembly
How long does your Apprenticeship take to
complete?
Your apprenticeship ends when all necessary
components have been completed. This might be expected to take
between 1 and a half and 2 years. The pace of your
applicant's progress will depend on you.
What opportunities are available
afterwards?
You could, move on to higher level
qualifications and to eventual recognition as Chartered
Engineers.
Qualifications required as part of the
Apprenticeship Framework
National Vocational Qualification
(NVQ)
You will need to achieve one of the following
NVQs at Level 2:
- Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
- Fabrication & Welding
- Engineering Production
- Engineering Manufacture
- Engineering Maintenance &
Installation
- Engineering Installation &
Commissioning
- Electrical & Electronics
- Servicing
- Technical Services
Technical Certificate
You will need to achieve an additional
qualification at level 2, for example,
- BTEC First Diploma in Engineering
(Edexcel)
- Certificate in Engineering 2800 Level 2
(C&G)
Key Skills
You will work to achieve the following Key
Skills:
- Communications Level 1
- Application of Number Level 1
- Information Technology Level 1
- Working With Others Level 2
- Improving Own Learning and Performance Level
2
Employer Rights and Responsibilities
You will discuss your individual needs with
your employer and college representative
