Intermediate Apprenticeship in
Information Technology
Apprentices learn on the job, building up
knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all
at the same time
WHAT WILL YOU
DO?
You will do work-based training with an
employer and they are paid a wage. Your apprenticeship will involve
working towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and
Functional Skills, as described below:
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
There are no minimum entry requirements for
this Apprenticeship. Employers may have their own entry
requirements.
Your suitability for the Apprenticeship may be
based upon
- Proven commitment to working in this sector,
through work experience or work experience;
- Academic and other qualifications eg GCSE's,
A Level's, NVQ's or Duke Of Edinburgh awards;
- Holding positions of responsibility at
school, college or workplace;
- Voluntary work and part-time employment
You should also be:
- Motivated to succeed in this sector;
- Willing to learn and apply that learning in
to the workplace;
- Able to demonstrate the potential to
- complete the relevant qualification;
- Willing to communicate effectively with a
range of people; and
- Numerate and Literate
WHAT JOB WILL YOU DO?
You are likely to be employed as one of the
following:
- Help desk operator
- IT systems technician
- IT support officer
- Network/systems
technician/support/operator
- IT support consultant
HOW LONG DOES YOUR APPRENTICESHIP TAKE TO
COMPLETE?
Your apprenticeship ends when all necessary
components have been completed, usually no more than 12
months. The pace of your progress will depend on you.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE
AFTERWARDS?
After completing the Intermediate
Apprenticeship, you could be considered for progression on to an
Advanced Apprenticeship.
Qualifications required as part of the
Apprenticeship Framework
NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
(NVQ)
You will need to achieve the following NVQ at
Level 2
- Installing and supporting IT systems
(OCR)
Functional Skills
You may be required to complete Functional
Skills:
- English Level 2
- Maths Level 2
- IT Level 2

your employer and college representative
