BTEC Edexcel National Extended Diploma in Fashion Level 3

Duration

Two years full time

 

Attendance

You are expected to be available to attend college Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm. Your timetable will be for 16 hours per week and will be explained to you at interview.

 

Course Description

The Level 3 Btec Extended Diploma in Fashion is a two year course designed to introduce you to the skills needed to move into either higher education or work in the fashion industry. You learn to design and manufacture garments using our large fashion workrooms, including computer aided design and pattern cutting. All activities will be underpinned by a core of drawing/visualisation skills.

 

Course Structure

The course consists of 18 units; 5 of which are core units. Further subject units offer a whole range of fashion and textile specialist areas. Assignments are set to explore various themes and lead up to a Final Major Project at the end of the 2nd Year.

 

Final year work is show cased at our end of year fashion show and exhibition

 

Course Assessment

Functional skills are embedded throughout the course and you may be required to take an exam. The course proper is assessed continuously with review points and / or critiques at the end of each project.

 

Course Entry Requirements

  • 4-5 GCSEs grades A*-C
  • First Diploma in Art & Design Level 2 at merit
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • All students will need to present a portfolio of art work at interview.

 

Course Costs

There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you will have to pay for a range of equipment, educational visits and a yearly residential. You will be informed of these at your interview.

 

Course Enrichment

Activities such as work placements, trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. It should be noted that these activities are optional. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

 

Course Progression

Upon completion of this course, the majority of our students go on to study fashion based courses at degree level. Degree courses are offered at University Centre Doncaster.

 

Course Career Prospects

Opportunities exist to enter the Creative Industries at a Junior Level. Further study is recommended to achieve employment in many job roles including garment technologist, visual merchandiser, fashion buyer and fashion designer
