BTEC Edexcel First Diploma in Art and Design - Art and Design Level 2

Duration

One Year full time

 

Attendance

You are expected to be available to attend college Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm. Your timetable will be for 16 hours per week and will be explained to you at interview

 

Course Description

The BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design is a one year course designed to introduce you to the broad range of Art & Design activities available at the College. You will study Fine Art painting; sculpture using wood & metal; printmaking; Ceramics, Textiles, Computer Aided Design & Photography. All activities will be underpinned by a core of drawing/visualisation skills.

 

Course Structure

The course consists of 6 units; 3 of which are core units. Assignments are set to explore various themes and lead up to a Final Major Project at the end of the year.

 

Course Assessment

Key/Functional skills are embedded throughout the course, you will be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these. The course proper is assessed continuously with critiques at the end of each 5 or 6 week project.

 

Course Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs grades D and above including English
  • Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media Level 1 at Merit
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • All students will need to present a portfolio of art work at interview.
  • Relevant industrial experience

 

Course Costs

There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

 

Course Enrichment

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

 

Course Progression

Most of our learners progress to BTEC National Diplomas in the Creative Industries Academy at the College

 

Course Career Prospects

After further study there are job opportunities in the creative industries including graphic design, games designing, photography, creative designing and picture editing
