Two years full time
The course requires approximately 16 hours contact time per week which will be timetabled between Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.
This programme will introduce you to the building blocks of a career in Mechanical Engineering.
The first year of the course delivers the foundation knowledge required for a successful career in Mechanical Engineering and includes practical experience in workshops and laboratories.
The second year of the course builds on knowledge acquired in the first year. Topics are more specialised and studied in greater depth preparing students for progression to Higher Education if desired.

There is also the opportunity to gain a National Vocational Qualification in workshop practices.
Year 2 Specialisations.
Assessment runs throughout the programme, combining projects, assignments and course work.
GCSE grade B or above in Maths and English and GCSE at grade C or above in Science. Alternatively, applicants must have a BTEC First Diploma Level 2 in Engineering (merits/distinctions required in key subjects)
There are no course tuition fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August, however the Academy applies a £50 materials fee for all full time courses. You may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery.
Activities such as trips and visits may be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be
charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.
Successful students may pursue further studies within engineering at HNC/D level.
There may be job opportunities including engineering technician, team leader and craftsperson. Further study at higher education will create opportunities in employment roles including engineers, technical managers, programme managers, and project managers.
