Course Description

Would you like to work in a local retail business, a large superstore, a private Ltd company, a legal or medical practice?  Would you like to be part of a team in administration, sales, customer service or marketing?  If Yes, this is the course for you.

 

The course will be supported by visiting speakers from local businesses, visits to local workplaces and work experience activities. This course will also provide you with skills and knowledge that may help you to develop your own business.

Course Structure

The course will enable you to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace including:

 

Planning an idea for a realistic business in the local area; creating an eye-catching product display; developing customer service skills in different situations; organising and providing support for meetings; preparing for an interview; teamwork skills; exploring costs involved in setting up a business and developing your understanding of profit; selling products and services; developing and promoting a brand for a business.

 

You will develop IT skills to enable you to produce a variety of business documents using up-to-date software including digital audio to gain nationally recognised qualifications.

 

You will also take Functional Skills at the appropriate level to reinforce skills in English and Maths.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed by a variety of methods including project work, role play, practical demonstration, portfolio building, E-assessment, multiple choice examination, presentations, oral examination, task-based controlled assessment and written examination.

 

You will be expected to undertake some research and written assignment work for the BTEC qualification in your own time.

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English.
  • Business Level 1
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview.

Course Career Prospects

There is a constant demand for suitably qualified administrative and retail staff both locally and nationally. Close liaison with employers ensures that students are kept well informed of changes and opportunities that may arise.

Enrichment

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged to local retailers, law courts, forest school and theme parks which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities may require additional fees which will be charged to you. There will also be additional opportunities to develop your creative, teamworking and presentation skills by taking part in competitions such as Dragon’s Den.

Course Costs

There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old.  However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery.  You will be informed of these at your interview.
