Travel and Tourism Level 3 Diploma
Course Description
This course will provide you with a good insight into many
aspects of the travel and tourism industry and will provide you
with transferable knowledge such as business skills, marketing,
customer service and the nature of overseas and UK tourism sectors.
It is an ideal progression on from having studied a level 2 program
in travel and will enable you to access higher education in this
subject area.
Course Structure
The National Certificate consists of 12 units of study of which
4 are compulsory:
- Customer Service
- UK Travel Destinations
- Business of Travel and Tourism
- Long Haul Destinations
Optional units specialise in particular aspects of the industry
such as:
Holiday Reps
- Entertainment
- Conference and Exhibitions
- Visitor Attractions
- Tour Operators
- Cruising
You will also study a Functional Skill as a required element of
the course. The Functional Skill will be in either ICT, English or
Maths at a level that is appropriate to you.
A minimum of 90% attendance is expected throughout the two year
program, meeting assessment hand in dates and having passed a
progression interview, will see you completing a further 6 units of
study for the National Certificate over the second year.
Study units vary from Handling Air Passengers Events,
Conferences and Exhibitions to Investigating the Cruise Sector and
Working with children in Holiday Play Settings
Course Assessment
Assessment will take a variety of forms including written
assignments, organisation of activities, presentations and tests.
Some assessment will be undertaken outside of college hours
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs grades A*-C including English.
- For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and receive Level 2 in literacy, and a minimum of level 1
in numeracy, you must also attend an interview and complete a
handwritten piece of work at interview
Course Progression Routes
If you complete the National Certificate you may be able to gain
entry to University or Higher Level study, with a good high grade
profile.
Course Career Prospects
Learners will improve their chances of gaining employment in the
travel and tourism industry such as travel agencies, tour
operators, visitor attractions, overseas work such as resort
representatives whilst improving their own communication and
vocational skills.

Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are
beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided at the time of interview.
You will be able to study a number of additional courses if you
wish. These may include cabin crew, passenger service agents and
resort reps qualifications. You may also be able to learn a
language such as Italian or Spanish. This additional study will
commence in semester 1 and allocation is based on a variety of
factors including submitting work on time, attendance etc.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
- Text book approximately £30.00
- Uniform Approximately £20 - £30.
- Educational visits approx £70.00 per year
You will need to purchase a uniform and a travel atlas. Some
educational visits will be compulsory as part of this course and
these will be payable in instalments. Full details will be provided
at interview
