Animal Care Level 1 Diploma
Course Description
The course is designed for all ages who may be looking for an
animal related career. It will provide you with the skills and
vocational qualifications to work in an animal related
environment.
The course is ideal for those who have a small amount of
experience in the care of animals and wish to improve their
knowledge and ability. You must commit to the course 100%.
Course Structure
The following mandatory units must be completed to achieve the
qualification:
- General animal husbandry
- Feeding and watering
- Choosing and maintaining animal accommodation
- The importance of hygiene and safety
- Movement, exercise and restraint of animals
Additional to your course will be a tutorial programme of study,
an ASDAN PSD qualification and functional skills in English, Maths
and IT.
Course Assessment
This is a portfolio based assessment qualification. Assessments
will be made on practical ability also knowledge and understanding
of set criteria. The course is internally verified and externally
verified by City & Guilds. Completion of all mandatory units is
required to receive the full qualification.
Entry Requirements
- 2 GCSEs grades G and above

- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an interview
Course Progression Routes
On completion you may be able to progress to the Work Based
Animal Care Diploma Level 2.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are
beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided at the time of interview.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you will have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
You will be required to purchase a uniform from the College.
