Animal Management Level 3 Diploma
Course Description
The course is suitable for those who have achieved a Level 2
qualification in animal care or relevant industry experience and
Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy skills. It will provide you with the
skills and vocational qualifications so that you can work in an
animal related environment or progress onto Higher Education in
this area. It includes a large amount of theoretical knowledge and
understanding with aspects of independent research.
You will be expected to be available to attend college for a
minimum of 3 days per week plus a half day work experience. You
must be prepared to commit to 100% attendance.
Course Structure
The following mandatory units must be completed to achieve the
Diploma qualification:
- Understand and Promote Animal Health
- Understand the Principles of Animal Biology
- Undertake Animal Handling and Safe Working
- Plan and Monitor Animal Feeding
- Manage Animal Accommodation
- Undertake and Review Work Experience in the Land-based
Industries
Additional to your course will be a tutorial programme of study,
plus an employability qualification.
Course Assessment
This is a portfolio based assessment qualification. Assessments
will be made on practical ability and knowledge and understanding
of set criteria. The course is Internally Verified and Externally
Verified by BTEC.
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs grades C and above including English and a Science
and relevant industry experience, or
- Animal Care Level 2 and Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy
- For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an interview
- Knowledge of the care and wellbeing of a variety of animals
would be expected.
Course Progression Routes
This course offers UCAS points and you may have the opportunity
to progress onto Higher Education.
Course Career Prospects
This qualification will provide opportunities in careers
including trainee veterinary nursing, kennel/cattery work, animal
rehabilitation, zoo or visitor centre work, animal rescue, trainee
groom and pet shop assistant.

beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided at the time of interview.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you will have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
A uniform is required.
