Horse Care Level 2 Diploma
Course Description
The course is suitable for those who have achieved Level 1 in
Horse Care and are working towards level 2 or have substantial
relevant industry experience. It will provide you with the skills
and vocational qualifications so that you can work in a number of
fields within the equine related industry.
If taking the riding option you should be able to ride in
balance at all paces with and without stirrups.
If you are choosing the jumping unit you must be able to jump a
variety of small fences on a variety of horses.
You will be required to take an initial assessment in your
riding ability.
Course Structure
Core/Optional Units
- Fit and remove horse clothing
- Prepare and clean stables
- Maintain the health and well being of horses
- Prepare horses for use
- Prepare and provide non-ridden exercise and aftercare
- Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Maintain and develop personal performance
- Plait and trim
- Turn out and catch
- Feed and water
- Exercise horses under supervision (non-jumping elements)
- School horses under supervision (jumping elements)
Additional to your course will be a tutorial programme of study,
a functional skill in English plus an employability
qualification.
Course Assessment
This is a portfolio based assessment qualification. Assessments
will be made on practical ability and knowledge and understanding
of set criteria. Completion of all mandatory units and optional
units are required to receive the full qualification.
Entry Requirements
- Level 1 in Horse Care
- Substantial relevant experience

- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an interview
- An assessment of your riding will be made if choosing a riding
option
Course Progression Routes
You may progress to higher level qualifications.
Course Career Prospects
This qualification will provide opportunities in grooming in a
variety of yards, exercising, teaching and training, pet food
industry or insurance and research.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
A uniform is required for this course.
