You are expected to be available to attend
college Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to
4.30pm.
Course Description
This qualification is aimed at 14-19 year olds
who prefer and respond to ‘hands-on’ learning. The structure
has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual
questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest
learners.
It is a qualification that introduces the
Technology relevant to the needs of today’s motor vehicle repair
industry including working in teams and preparation for
employment.
The Certificate is suitable as the vocational
subject-based learning component of the Foundation Learning
Tier. The selection of the Personal and Social Development
units within the Award also meets the Foundation Learning Tier
current requirements for credits of personal and social development
learning. The student will also be given the opportunity to
develop their English, Maths and ICT skills as part of the
programme.
Course Structure
To gain the full Certificate for this
qualification learners must achieve the following:
Certificate -24 credits
- This must include 6 credits from mandatory units.
- A minimum of 2 credits must be at level 1. A maximum of 8
credits may come from level 1.
The remaining credits may come from Entry 3 or
Personal and Social Development units.
Course Assessment
Learning outcomes are set at unit level and
are achieved by following task based, oral assessments and one
on-line assessment.
Course Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements.
Initial Assessment Literacy and Numeracy at entry level 2.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19
years old on 31 August 2010. However there will be a materials
charge of £50 towards course material. Any visits or personal
stationery may have to be paid for.
Course Enrichment
Enrichment activities are available across
college. Trips and visits may be arranged where this would benefit
the course. These activities are optional and additional fees may
be charged.
Course Progression
This qualification will support progress to a
Foundation (Level 1) Diploma or Certificate.
Course Career Prospects
After further study you will have the
opportunity to work for franchised dealerships Independent fast fit
centres National fast fit chains
Fast fit technicians work in separate
workshops or along side other vehicle technicians. Their main
duties will include:
- Testing batteries and other engine parts to
find faults
- Checking tyres and exhausts for defects
- Replacing or repairing faulty parts Balancing
and re-aligning wheels
- Offering customers advice on simple
maintenance issues
