Second Chance - Asdan Personal & Social Development
Course Description
This is an exciting programme designed for 16-18 year olds who
are not sure what they want to do next and would like to see what
college has to offer.
A maximum of 12 weeks introductory programme followed by the
opportunity to progress onto further programmes that could last for
the whole year! The choice is yours!
Course Structure
This course offers a wide range of opportunities, such as,
working outdoors and learning about the environment, educational
trips and residential visits are all part of this experience. We
are also part of several European projects that offer individuals
the opportunity to take part in a 2 week work placement exchange
scheme.
In addition the opportunity to improve your Literacy and
Numeracy in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere is included in you
programme.
Also offered are a range of exciting vocational options for you
to try out – Construction, Art and Sport are examples.
Course Assessment
Assessment is based on your individual learning plan and you
will create a portfolio of work to prepare for ASDAN accreditation.
Functional Skills will be assessed either on-line, or by an end of
course assignment to gain a qualification in Literacy or
Numeracy.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will
complete an initial assessment and have an interview with one of
our tutors who will talk to you about the sorts of options you
would want to try in college.
Course Progression Routes
Second Chance is designed to give you the basics for progressing
to a course of your choice in the following year. Functional skills
are an important part of our course because you need good literacy
and numeracy skills to be accepted on vocational programmes. Your
tutors will discuss your progression opportunities with you.
Course Career Prospects
This course will help you to follow a chosen career path by
entering employment or progressing on to a college course or
apprenticeship.

Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are
beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees may be charged to you. Details will be
provided at the time of interview.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview
