Course Description

This course is intended to enable students to explore a range of areas within the health services. It will provide knowledge, understanding and skills required for further education or future employment in the health and care sectors.

Course Structure

The course comprises of 19 units, eight core and the 11 optional units covering a wide aspect of Health & Social Care.

 

The programme is made up of three elements; Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma of which the learner has to complete to achieve the Extended Diploma.

 

Functional Skills in communication, application of number and ICT are an integral part of the course

Course Assessment

All evidence is completed through practical written work in the form of assignments over the 2 year programme. The placement requires learners to complete a reflective log.

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSE’s grades A*-C including Maths, English and Science.
  • Health and Social Care Level 2 at Merit grade
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview

Course Progression Routes

HND/Degree programmes including Nursing, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Sociology, Psychology and Criminology.

Course Career Prospects

This qualification will provide opportunities in careers including Nursing, Social Work, Care Management, Family Support Worker, Youth and Community Work.

Course Costs

There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.
