Health & Social Care Level 1
Course Description
This course is intended to enable students to explore a range of
areas within the health services. It will provide knowledge,
understanding and skills required for further education or future
employment in the health and care sectors.
Course Structure
The course comprises of two elements:
- Level 1 Health & Social Care
- Level 1 Certificate in Personal & Social Development,
covering a wide aspect of Health & Social care activities.
Functional Skills in communication and application of number are
an integral part of the course.
Course Assessment
All evidence is completed through practical written work in the
form of assignments over the one year programme.
Entry Requirements
- Limited GCSEs grades D – G
- Health and Social Care Entry Level
- For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in
Mathematics and English and attend an interview
Course Progression Routes
- BTEC Diploma Health & Social Care Level 2
- Apprenticeship - Care
- Pre-Access to Nursing - intended for 19+ adults/students
(students under 19 may incur a substantial fee)
Course Career Prospects
After further study this qualification will provide
opportunities in careers in care such as Home Care Worker,
Residential Care Worker and Personal Assistant.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are
beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided during your programme.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
