Food and Drink Service Level 2 NVQ
Course Description
Working in the realistic working environment of the Waterfront Restaurant and Conference Centre you
will learn how to prepare the restaurant and service areas for
buffets, luncheons, evening meals and takeaways whilst complying
with food and health and safety laws.
Course Structure
This course will run alongside the VRQ or NVQ Professional
Cookery or can be studied as a stand alone qualification. Units
covered include maintaining a safe & hygienic working
environment, teamwork, customer care, maintaining food safety,
preparing & clearing the bar area, maintain and deal with
payments, serve food at the table, prepare areas for table
service.
You will also study Functional Skills which may include Maths,
English and IT.
Course Assessment
Assessment for NVQ qualifications is achieved by practical
assessments or required tasks or job roles and written short answer
questions.

- City and Guilds Level 1 Food and Drink Service
- City and Guilds Level 1 Multi-skilled Hospitality Services
- Relevant Industrial Experience

- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an interview
Course Progression Routes
Following successful completion learners may progress onto NVQ
level 3 Hospitality Supervision.
Course Career Prospects
This qualification will provide opportunities to gain employment
serving food and drink to customers in the hospitality industry.
This could be in restaurants, conference centres, event catering
and contract catering.

Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are
beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided at the time of interview.
As part of the course a four week local or national work
placement is undertaken along with trips and guest speakers from
local hospitality outlets.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
A full front of house uniform is required for all students
enrolling on this course.
