Advanced GCE in Applied ICT (Double Award) Level 3
Course Description
Enter the world of Computing and open up a bright future. The
GCE in Applied ICT (Double Award) enables you to achieve 2 A levels
and offers progression both into Higher Education and employment in
the field of ICT. It is designed to develop skills, knowledge and
understanding.
A strong emphasis is placed on skills development. During the
course of the two year programme you will undertake a host of
activities aimed at developing your skills in a computing
environment.
Course Structure
The course is made up of Mandatory, Examined and Optional Units.
You will study 6 AS units in your first year and complete your ‘A’
levels by studying the 6 A2 units in your second year.
Mandatory Units
The Information Age*, The Digital Economy*, System Design and
Installation*, Web Development*, Technical Support*, Managing ICT
Projects.
Examined Units
The Knowledge Worker*, Using Database Software, Communications
and Networks.
Optional Units (Where available)
Multimedia Software, Using Spreadsheet Software, Customising
Applications, Web Management, Programming.

Students will also be required to attend Tutorials and
functional Skills for Maths and English.
Course Assessment
Assessment of your work is carried out both internally and
externally in the form of examinations and assignment work. You
will have regular tutorials designed to feedback the information
you will require to progress your computing skills and
knowledge.
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (preferably with English and Maths)
- BTEC First for IT Practitioners with Merit
- Intermediate GNVQ in ICT
- For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English, a diagnostic assessment and attend an interview where an
assignment will be given out for completion at home.
- Learners must be working towards level 2 in both English and
Maths but must not be below level 1.
- Potential students will be assessed on an individual basis
following the interview, the completion of the set assignment to a
deadline, attainment of the relevant qualifications and the college
induction process
Course Progression Routes
The GCE (Double Award) in ICT qualifies for UCAS points. If you
successfully complete you could move on to study for a degree or
Higher National Diploma in related subjects to ICT.

optional and additional fees may be charged to you. Details will be
provided at the time of interview.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31st
August 2012, however there are materials costs of £20.00.
