Attendance
You are expected to be available to
attend college Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to
4.30pm. Your timetable will be no more than 16 hours per week and
will be explained to you at interview.
Course Description
The BTEC L2 Diploma in IT (IT User) course is
designed for learners who wish to study within the technology
sector, and to improve job prospects in a wide area of IT related
fields.
Course Structure
Learners will not only be equipped with the skills &
knowledge to succeed in an ever changing ICT environment through
completion of this course, but also a strong emphasis is placed on
providing additional skills for life. The course itself offers some
of the following subjects:
Mandatory Units: Communicating in the IT
Industry, Working in the IT Industry, Computer Systems
Optional Units: Spreadsheet Modeling, Database
Systems, Configuring Software, Presenting Information Using IT
Course Assessment
All units are internally assessed. Tutorials form part of the
curriculum, designed specifically to provide students with
individual timeslots so feedback on assignments can be discussed
along with any other queries.
Course Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades D and above including English

Level 1 National Certificate in Business & ICT (merit) or
equivalent

All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English at Level 1, attend an interview and a short induction
programme.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31
August 2011. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal
kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed
of these at your interview.
Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be
arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning.
These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged
to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.
Course Progression
Upon successful completion you can progress to a level 3
course:
- GCE in Applied ICT
- Diploma in Professional Competence Level 3
Course Career Prospects
There may be an opportunity to gain employment within the ICT
sector or after further study there are many opportunities to enter
the IT sector including technical and software sales, applications
programme, systems analyst, computer trainer, network manager,
computer operator.
