Course Description
This unique package of qualifications has been designed to offer
learners choice and freedom to start and finish at different stages
throughout the academic year.
The course comprises of five vocational related qualifications
to develop a range of employability skills and techniques necessary
to prepare individuals for employment in the sport, leisure and
fitness industry.
Learners will be able to develop an understanding of the Fitness
Industry and the Sport and Active Leisure sector through practical
activities and portfolio of evidence.
Course Structure
The course consists of the 5 following qualifications which will
be studied throughout the year.
NCFE L1 Award in the Principles of Coaching
Sport
The course introduces the knowledge and practical skills
required when assisting coaching activities in sport. It consists
of 4 units:
- Understanding the fundamentals of coaching sport
- Understanding the principles of planning coaching
activities
- Understanding the principles of conducting coaching
activities
- Understanding the principles of evaluating coaching
activities
NCFE L1 Award in Exercise Studies
The course introduces the knowledge and practical skills for
having a greater understanding of nutrition and dietary choices
essential to maintain health and wellbeing. It consists of 3
units:
- Understand the principles of exercise and fitness
- Demonstrate an understanding of safety factors relating to
exercise
- Apply the principles of the training programme
NCFE L1 Award in Sport and Leisure
The course introduces the knowledge and practical skills
required to gain employment in the Sport, Recreation and Leisure
industry. It consists of 4 units:
- Job opportunities in Sport and Active Leisure
- Working in Sport and Active Leisure
- Planning and Participating in an event
- Assist in delivering an activity session
CYQ L1 Award in Fitness and Physical
Activity
The course provides the basic essential knowledge and practical
skills to assist in the delivery of gym based exercise activities
and one of the most recognised qualifications to gain employment in
the fitness industry. It consists of 4 units:
- Exercise and Fitness Knowledge - Theory Exam
- Participate in Physical Activity
- Exploring personal fitness
- Assist in delivering an exercise session
NCFE L2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator
Events
The course is suitable for anyone that is considering a career
in stewarding at spectator safety events or wishing to volunteer
within the industry. It consists of 4 units:
- How stewards prepare for spectator events
- How stewards control the entry, exit and movements of
spectators
- How stewards monitor and respond to potential crowd
problems
- How to respond to injuries, illness and other emergencies
Course Assessment
NCFE L1 Award in the Principles of Coaching
Sport
4 weeks – A portfolio of evidence will be generated through a
combination of practical and theoretical activities.
NCFE L1 Award in Exercise Studies
9 weeks – A portfolio of evidence will be generated through a
combination of practical and theoretical activities throughout the
academic year.
NCFE L1 Award in Sport and Leisure
11 weeks – A portfolio of evidence will be generated through a
combination of practical and theoretical activities.
CYQ L1 Award in Fitness and Physical
Activity
6 weeks – A combination of practical and theoretical workshops
will prepare candidates for a practical assessment and 2 x multiple
choice theory exams.
NCFE L2 Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator
Events
5 weeks – A portfolio of evidence will be generated through a
combination of practical and theoretical activities.
Entry Requirements
No formal entry qualifications.
Course Career Prospects
Opportunities exist to enter careers including fitness
instruction, personal trainer, outdoor activities, sports coaching,
sport and exercise science, leisure management, and leisure
operational services.

beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are
optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will
be provided at the time of interview.
Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However,
you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips
and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your
interview.
