Course Description

The course provides an excellent opportunity for you to combine the theoretical side of sports science with the practical application of that knowledge.

 

Additionally you will be able to attend our Sports Academy programmes and receive up to six hours of specialist coaching.

Course Structure

The course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and understanding of a number of science based units. The course allows for natural progression on to the BTEC L3 Sport and Exercise Science (Top Up) Diploma if a merit profile is achieved or enter employment in the sport and active leisure industry.

 

  • Sport and Exercise Psychology
  • Sport and Exercise Physiology
  • Instructing Physical Activity
  • Research Methods for Sport
  • Sports Coaching
  • Anatomy for Sport and Exercise

Course Assessment

This course is internally assessed by means of performance observations, assignments, presentations, reports and projects.

Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSE A*-C to include one or more of the following: Science, Mathematics and English
  • A BTEC level 2 qualification in Sports and Exercise Science or a related discipline - a minimum of 4 merits
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • All applicants are required to successfully complete a two-week introduction to Sport and Leisure Course

Course Career Prospects

Job opportunities include sports and leisure assistant, pool lifeguard, sports coach, fitness instructor, outdoor activity instructor, physical education teacher, sports therapist, chiropractic practitioner and nutritionist.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

 

Sports Academy Programmes

A six hour coaching package will be available to you such as:

  • Football (male and female)
  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Athletics
  • Netball

 

NB (subject to skills tests)

Course Costs

There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.
