IAB Level 1 Award in Manual Book-keeping

Course Description

This course is aimed at individuals who wish to begin their studies of book-keeping. It could also be used by those candidates who have some practical knowledge and skills and wish to gain an accredited qualification in the subject.

Course Structure

Part time 2 hours per evening, one evening per week for 15 weeks

 

Candidates will learn how to complete the following:

  • Understand the functions of book-keeping and accounting
  • Make simple Value Added Tax (VAT) calculations
  • Prepare and check business documents
  • Process and record credit transactions
  • Make and receive payments through a bank current account
  • Process receipts and payments through the analysed cash book
  • Prepare a bank reconciliation statement
  • Process petty cash transactions

 

Assessment is by a one and a half hour examination and course assignments.

Entry Requirements

For non-active speakers of English: Intermediate Level English

Course Progression Routes

There are many courses you can progress on to including the IAB Level 2 in Bookkeeping, City & Guilds Level 1 or 2 Computerised Accounts or AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

Course Career Prospects

Accounts/Finance clerk or after further progression there may be job opportunities to become an accounting technician. Also owners of small businesses may also find this qualification useful as it gives coverage of the keeping of a single entry book-keeping system, suitable for the production of small business accounts.
