CACHE Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce Level 3

Course Description

Doncaster College is a CACHE approved centre for the delivery of the cache L3 Diploma for the children and young people’s workforce. The qualification is suitable for people involved in vocational work, either fulltime, part-time, paid or unpaid. Students who are not employed in childcare will need to be in a voluntary placement.

 

It does not matter where you work with children - in playgroups, day nurseries, hospitals, voluntary agencies, local authorities or private organisations – the Level 3 Diploma will benefit both you and the organisation you work for. The Level 3 Diploma will raise the quality of service provided by staff through the recognition of skills and experience gained through work.

Course Structure

This qualification is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The QCF allows you to build towards a qualification at your own pace and in small steps of learning.

 

The L3 meets the requirements and will form part of the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) Qualification List for the Early Years Register.

 

The Diploma will guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to early learning, it also confirms competence in these areas and serves as the required qualification for all practitioners.

 

The qualification is composed of mandatory and option units. These can be knowledge based, skills/competency- based.

 

You are required to complete 11 core units these will credit you with 27 credits you must choose a ‘pathway’ that links into either:

  • Early years- 22 credits
  • Children and young peoples Social care- 13 credits
  • Learning, development and support services- 13 credits

 

To gain the full L3 qualification of 65 credits you will need to choose option units that add up to 65 credits

 

This course is work-based and assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence in which you will demonstrate your competence.

 

An approved assessor will visit your workplace to assess your work

Entry Requirements

You do not need any qualifications or have to have undertaken any previous courses or forms of study. However, you will have to show that you have the required underpinning knowledge and understanding of childcare. Therefore you will need to have had at least six months experience in a childcare setting and currently be working within a setting 6-10 hours weekly. This is to support vocational competence.
