Understanding Work within a Childcare Environment

Course Description

These units will be an excellent start to develop your understanding of working with children. It will also be an excellent progression route onto the Level 2 and Level 3 Children & Young People’s Workforce qualifications.

Course Structure

  • Unit 1 Growth and development for young children
    This unit helps you to understand and know about factors which influence growth and development from birth to 5 years. It also helps you to understand how to support growth and development as a parent and practitoner.
  • Unit 2 Roles and responsibilities in an early years setting
    This unit helps you to understand the structure of an early years setting and identify your role within a team. It also helps you to develop skills to improve your own practice within this environment.
  • Unit 3 Respecting and valuing children
    This unit helps you to develop and understand ways to respect and value children as individuals. It will also explore the rights of children.
  • Unit 4 Understand the features of a positive learning enviroment 
    This unit helps you to understand the features of a positive environment. You will understand how play can help children’s learning and development. You will also understand how play activities will meet their indiviudal needs, avoid stereotyping and discrimination.
  • Unit 5 Craft activities for young children 
    This unit will help you to identify the benefits of craft activities for young children and understand health and safety requirements.

 

This course is based on assessment and a portfolio of evidence in which you will demonstrate your competence.

Entry Requirements

You do not need any qualifications or have to have undertaken any previous courses or forms of study.

Course Progression Routes

This qualification provides opportunities for progression to further study of the Level 2 and Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce qualifications.
