City and Guilds Diploma in Systems and Principles for IT Professionals Levels 2 and 3 - Microsoft Route

Course Description

The aim of this course is to give students the skills and knowledge they will require to undertake a career within IT Support. The main focus of this course will be Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. Students will learn how to install, configure and maintain this product in both a home and large business environment.

 

Students must attend two sessions per week. One each from the following lists.

 

Session one, from:

  • Mondays 17:00 – 21:00
  • Tuesdays 09:00 – 13:00
  • Tuesdays 13:30 – 17.30

 

Session two, from:

  • Mondays 09:00 – 13:00
  • Wednesdays 13:15 – 17:15
  • Thursdays 17:00 – 21:00

Course Structure

The course is delivered part time at the College’s Hub site and will require students to attend 8 hours per week. The Microsoft sessions take the form of lecture sessions delivered by a Microsoft Certified trainer. The Cisco IT Essentials sessions will take the form of workshops were students will work at their own pace using professionally prepared materials with full tutor support and access to practical equipment.

  • Customer Service (Level 2)
  • Cisco IT Essentials (Level 2)
  • Microsoft 70-680 – Configuring Windows 7 (Level 3)
  • Microsoft 70-685 - Enterprise Desktop Support Technician (Level 3)

 

Students who successfully complete this course will be recognised by Microsoft as having the skills and knowledge required to become an entry level IT support professional. They will also hold the Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician (MCITP).

Entry Requirements

  • A good working knowledge of computers
  • Skills in using Microsoft Office applications (to at least level 1 standard)
  • Good comprehension of English to at least level 2 standard (this will be assessed via a diagnostic test)

Course Progression Routes

You may progress onto the Level 3 Diploma after the successful completion of this course.

Course Career Prospects

This is an industry lead certification that will prepare you for work as a front line PC support specialist.
