Course Description
The BTEC Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment
qualification is for students who wish to pursue careers in the
technical side of the construction industry.
Course Structure
his course is made up of 12 units: 6 core units and 6 specified
specialist units which will be selected from the ones listed below,
giving an overall general approach to the technical side of the
construction industry.
Core Units:
- Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built
Environment
- Sustainable Construction
- Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment
- Science and Materials in Construction and the Built
Environment
- Construction Technology and Design in Construction and Civil
engineering
- Building Technology in Construction
Specialist Units:
- Project Management in Construction and the Built
Environment
- Measuring, Estimating and Tendering Processes in Construction
and the Built Environment
- Surveying in Construction and Civil Engineering
- Building Surveying in Construction
- Computer Aided Drafting and Design for Construction
- Mechanical and Electrical Services in Construction
- Building Regulations and Control in Construction
- Property Law in Construction
Entry Requirements
- A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject
- An Intermediate GNVQ in a technology subject.
- At least four GCSEs at Grades A-C (to include Maths Science and
English).
- NVQ level 2/3 trade qualifications and appropriate work
experience
Course Progression Routes
Successful completion of the Btec Level 3 Diploma in
Construction and the built Environment will enable students to
progress to HNC/HND programmes in Construction.
Course Career Prospects
Student not already in employment could progress into technical
jobs in the construction industry such as Building Surveyor,
Quantity Surveyor, Architectural Technician and
Buyer/Estimator.
