CAA Diploma in Excavation and Reinstatement of the Highways Level 2
This course is aimed at people new to the Highway
Maintenance Industry and is a Level 2 Diploma.
You will be taught how to lay tarmac, concrete, kerbstones,
blocks and flagstones, operate power tools including stihl saw,
floor saw, whacker plates and a one ton pedestrian roller, while
working within Highways Agency specification and regulation for
The course is made up of 5 units:- Health and Safety,
Building Technologies, Excavation of the Highways, Reinstatement of
the Highways and Traffic Management. There are also an
optional Levelling and CAT and GENNY units.
The course is made up of theory, with a final exam at the end of
the year, and practical assignments which are assessed
throughout the course.
Employed learners will also undertake the QCF level 2 in Highway
All learners will be given the opportunity to undertake a CSCS
Card application and Test.
- A Level 1 qualification in Ground Works
- Maths, English and Science GCSE's at grade E or
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an individual interview
Course Progression Routes
Successful completion of the course will give learners an
opportunity to progress to the QCF Level 3 Diploma in
Site Supervision or a Level 3 Building and Civil Engineering
Extended Certificate / Diploma. Further study
opportunities to Level 6 are available.
