City & Guilds Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector 6302 Level 4

Course Description

A pre-service or in-service qualification for learners who work, or want to work as teachers/trainers in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS). It is mandatory for those wishing to enter teaching in the regulated LLS in England. PTLLS is widely recognised as the standard for those beginning to teach in the non-regulated sector in England, as well as in other nations.

 

This is a 12 week, part-time course delivered at The Hub site; the course includes taught sessions, tutorials, workshops and micro-teach sessions or lesson observations.

Course Structure

This is a four- unit qualification, comprising of the following sections:

 

PTLLS at level 4 consists of four units of 3 credits. These will be:

 

  • Roles and responsibilities in lifelong learning
  • Understanding inclusive learning and teaching in lifelong learning
  • Using inclusive learning and teaching approaches in lifelong learning which will include delivering a Microteach presentation
  • Assessment in lifelong learning

Entry Requirements

All learners will need to complete an application and interview prior to enrolling.

 

Learners must complete a pre-enrolment questionnaire to indicate initial assessment of their own skills in literacy, language, numeracy and ICT, as well as other learner characteristics. This assessment will be used to identify support and development needs and provide a basis for progression and professional formation. All written work must be word-processed.

 

City & Guilds does not set formal entry requirements for this these qualifications.

However, to ensure that learners have the potential and opportunity to achieve the qualifications, learners are required to have evidence of level 3 vocational skills for the area in which they will teach if they are to progress into teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS).

You should have good verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to attend taught sessions and meet deadlines.

Course Progression Routes

They allow learners to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as having achieved 12 credit points towards the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTTLS)

Course Career Prospects

On completion of this course students will have had an introduction to the role of an Associate Teacher or trainer.
