BTEC Extended Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Level 2
Course Description
This course is aimed at people new to or already in the
engineering industry who require academic qualifications in
Mechanical Engineering. The course can form part of the
Apprenticeships framework, and is also suitable for mature
students. This qualification is also intended to run with PEO level
1.
Course Structure
his certificate is worth 30credits and is delivered over 180
guided learning hours. The course is made up of two mandatory
units:
- Unit 1 Working Safely and Effectively in Engineering (5
credits)
- Unit 2 Interpreting and Using Engineering Information (5
credits)
And three optional units:
- Unit 3 Mathematics for technicians (5 credits)
- Unit 8 Selecting Engineering Materials (5 credits)
- Unit 15 Part Programming CNC machines (10 credits)
Learners progressing from the Btec Certificate can combine their
existing 15 credits into this Extended Certificate.
The course is assessed by internal practical or written
assignments. As part of the assessment every student must pass, or
have passed each of the key skills at level 1 which are assessed on
the course.
Entry Requirements
- 4 GCSEs at grades D and above , including Science, and a grade
C in Maths
- For equivalent qualifications see the ‘Guide to General Entry
Requirements’
- All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and
English and attend an individual interview
- Entry requirements may be waived for mature students who have
considerable relevant experience
Course Progression Routes
Successful applicants can progress onto the BTEC Level 2 First
Diploma.
Course Career Prospects
This programme is aimed at people wanting to enter the industry
in roles such as team leader, engineering technician and craftsman;
however after further study there are wider job opportunities
including senior engineer, technical manager, and project
manager.
