Attendance will normally consist of one extended day per week, running into the evening for approximately 35 weeks over a period of one year. To qualify for the award 16 units are required of which 10 are taken from the HNC level qualification.
There is a mixture of classroom and practical activity throughout the course. In addition to the course fee students must pay a BTEC registration fee. The registration is valid for five years.
Assessment will be carried out by means of a number of assignments, laboratory exercises, coursework and examinations.
There are six units of study:
This is normally a BTEC Higher National Certificate, but the course leader will consider other entry qualifications.
Students are selected on a first come first served basis although no difficulty is usually experienced in gaining access to the course.
Students who successfully complete the course may proceed to the BSc (Hons) degree in Integrated Technology which is also run on a part-time day basis within the College.
Alternatively it may be possible to secure a place on a university course elsewhere.
Successful completion will assist your progression in your current employment and also widen opportunities within the general engineering environment into jobs such as Senior Engineer and Project Manager.
If you are unsure about your career progression please contact the Careers Team.
