Course Description

Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning is the name given to education provision at Entry Level and Level 1. It aims to improve the skills of learners by helping them gain credit-based qualifications at Entry Level and Level 1 in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which can then lead them to appropriate destinations such as Level 2 qualifications or supported employment.

 

This qualification is designed to engage and motivate students who are interested in learning about the automotive retail industry. They are aimed at learners who prefer and respond to 'hands-on' learning. Therefore they each have a practical approach to assessment and include many visual questioning techniques which will stimulate and interest learners.

Course Structure

The qualification is made up of 29 credits (8 Mandatory and 21 optional).

 

The mandatory units include:

  • Health and Safety Practices in Vehicle Maintenance, Tools, Equipment
  • Materials for Vehicle Maintenance.

 

The optional units include:

  • Routine Vehicle Maintenance Processes and Procedures on Vehicles (4 wheels or More)
  • SI Engine Systems, Components and Operation
  • Steering and Suspension Systems Components and Maintenance (4 wheels or more)
  • Vehicle braking Systems Components and Maintenance
  • Vehicle Wheels and Tyres Construction and Maintenance
  • Vehicle Exhaust Systems Components and Maintenance
  • Vehicle Electrical Foundation Skills

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE’s at grade D plus, Level 1 Award, Initial assessment  Literacy and Numeracy at Level 1.

Course Progression Routes

Completion of the full programme will support progression to a level 1 Diploma or Level 2 qualification

Course Career Prospects

After further study you may have the opportunity to work for a range of employers, franchised dealers and independent repair centres carrying out duties such as servicing vehicles and replacing faulty parts.
