Central YMCA Qualifications Certificate in Fitness Instructing Gym Level 2

Course Description

The course introduces the knowledge and practical skills required when working or entering the Exercise and Fitness Industry and consist of the following:

 

  • Exercise and fitness knowledge covering the four major areas of the body
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • How to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
  • Exercise and fitness knowledge covering the components of fitness
  • How to plan, instruct and evaluate a safe and effective gym based session

 

The course is based at The Hub Fitness Centre and will consist of a series of theoretical and practical workshops

Course Structure

One week intensive course followed by a series of one day work shops over six weeks.

 

Core Units:

  • Unit 01 Level 2 Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise - multiple choice theory paper externally set and marked by CYQ
  • Unit 02 Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment -Worksheet
  • Unit 03 Level 2 of Exercise, Fitness and Health - multiple choice theory paper externally set and marked by CYQ
  • Unit 04 Know How to Support Clients who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Activity- Worksheet
  • Unit 05 Planning Gym Based Exercise
  • Unit 06 Instructing Gym Based Exercise

 

2 x Theory Exams – 40 questions, 28 marks to pass (70%)

 

Practical Exam – 80 mins observation of performance delivering gym based exercise

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs A-C
  • Literacy at Level 2
  • Level 1 CYQ Fitness Instructing Certificate or Level 2 related qualification in sport or fitness
  • Fitness industry experience and/or gym exercise experience
  • Over 16 years old

Course Progression Routes

  • CYQ Level 2 Exercise To Music, Circuit Training, Aqua Aerobics, Step Aerobics
  • CYQ Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor / Personal Trainer
