Is this course for me?

Our Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is aimed at experienced managers who are working in a position with strategic impact. You may be working in the public or private sector, or be an owner manager in your own organisation. You may have an undergraduate degree, or equivalent, or a Masters degree in another discipline. Alternatively, you may have experience in business and wish to compliment your experience with a formal business qualification. If you have a postgraduate certificate or equivalent professional qualification, you may be able to enter directly into the second year of the qualification.

How will this course help me and my organisation?

You will have the opportunity to bring real workplace issues to the table, to analyse and find solutions to the challenges you encounter in your own working environment.  The course is ‘action based’ which means that in your assignments and dissertation you will apply your learning directly to your work, giving you the opportunity to make real improvements to the business. You will also benefit from developing the ability to objectively challenge the status quo, to critically analyse situations, to reflect on your actions and learning, and to gain confidence in your management and leadership skills.

Course description

You will study the following subjects during your time with us:

Modules include:

  • Year 1: Marketing, Knowledge and Information, Operations Management, Human Resources, Finance, Organisation Behaviour Operations Management

  • Year 2: International Business, Strategy, Advanced Communication Techniques (NLP), Innovation & Enterprise, Analytical Techniques and Research methods. During this year you will also complete a dissertation for which you will research a real strategic issue within your organisation, implement changes as a result of your research and evaluate the impact of your actions. This is an opportunity to develop your personal skills as well as to add real value to your organisation.

Assessment

There are no examinations and a variety of innovative assessment methods are planned to complement traditional assignments and your dissertation. You will deliver presentations both individually and as groups, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your communication and team skills.

Entry requirements

You will need an undergraduate degree or another qualification of a satisfactory standard for postgraduate admission (eg Level 6 or equivalent, preferably in a business related course). We will also consider non-graduates with a minimum of three years relevant experience at the appropriately senior level of responsibility. Direct entry to Year 2 is possible if you have the appropriate qualifications. An IELTS score of at least 6.5 is required.

Direct entry to Year 2 is possible if applicants possess either:

  • A Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies, or
  • An Executive Diploma in Management awarded by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

All applicants will be interviewed by the Business School and approved by the University of Wales prior to being accepted on to the programme.

Cost for entry 2010 - 2011
