Grants and Loans to help with other living costs
As well as Student Loans, there are various
other support means to help with your accommodation and other
living costs:
Maintenance Grant
This is non-repayable support of up to
£2,906 per year for 2011/12, dependant on your household
income.

Special support Grant
This is non-repayable support of up to £2,906 per year for
2011/12, dependant on your household income . This replaces the
maintenance grant for learners who can claim income-related
benefits.
Maintenance Loan
The amount depends upon the household income and where the
learner will be living. It is repayble once the programme of study
is completed and earnings rise above £15,000 per year.
Childcare Grant
This is non-repayable support towards 85% of registered
childcare costs, dependant on household income.
Parents' learning Allowance
This is non-repayable allowance of up to £1508 a year dependant
on household income, to help with course-related costs for learners
who have dependant children.
Adult dependants' Grant
This is non-repayable grant, dependant upon household income, to
help learners who have an adult who depends on them
financially.
Access to Learning Fund (ALF)
This is a non-repayable fund which is assessed upon individual
student needs according to their financial situation. It is
available directly from University Centre Doncaster. The fund is to
help with:
- Essential course related costs for example, text books,
stationery, kit and equipment
- Top-up childcare costs
- Travel costs
- For emergency payments to cover unexpected financial crises or
exceptional costs – such as repairs to household equipment
- If you are thinking of giving up your course because of
financial difficulties and need financial help to keep
studying
