COURSE DESCRIPTION
The BTEC Higher National Diploma is a course of study suitable
for the Technician Engineer who is, or is expected to be, involved
in design, specification, purchase, installation and maintenance of
building services equipment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Entry into the first year of the BTEC HND course is normally
with BTEC NC or ND in an appropriate discipline or at least
one A level in Maths or Physics. Students with qualifications
considered to be of a comparable standard may also be admitted to
the course.
- Candidates will normally be asked to attend an interview to
discuss their suitability for the course.
HOW IS THE COURSE ORGANISED?
The course is offered on a full-time basis and extends over
two academic years.
The topics the HND is offered on successful completion of the
Certificate for 1 year, part-time during the day. The
acquisition of the Diploma will then allow access to a BSc (Hons)
degree in engineering, also provided on a part-time basis.
Alternatively the HND may be obtained by full-time study over
2 years.
The course provides study in mechanical, electrical and
managerial subjects. A selection of subjects that may be
studied are:
- Mathematics
- Construction
- Services Control Technology
- Thermodynamics
- Electricity and Lighting
- Heating A and B
- Air Conditioning A and B
- Process Measurement
- Tendering and Estimating
- Administration
- Design Project
- Company Organisation and Personnel
- Management
ASSESSMENT
This will be by a combination of methods including coursework,
projects and examinations.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
It is possible to progress on to a course in a similar subject
area or the BSc (Hons) degree in Integrated Technology or gain
employment in the Building Services sector.
