Course Description

The degree in Contemporary Performance Practice allows acting students to extend their skills and ideas about performance. You will have the opportunity to integrate digital technology into the creation of new and original work as well as be part of new developments in theatre arts for the 21st Century. At Doncaster, we positively encourage collaboration with other performing arts practitioners across the Faculty of Arts.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed through a variety of means, including essays, performances, projects and presentations.

 

Entry requirements

A successful interview and audition, and the attainment of one of the following qualifications:

  • Minimum UCAS Tariff Points- 160
  • BTEC National Diploma in a relevant subject- Merit/Distinction Profile
  • Adult Access to HE- Pass/Merit Profile
  • Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
  • Applications are invited from mature students without formal qualifications who can demonstrate a capability to pursue the course successfully.

 

Progression Routes

This course is designed to be both an exciting and a relevant learning experience for students, and the combination of both theoretical and practical knowledge is essential for a world in which performance is increasingly using mixed approaches.  In both popular and classical culture, performances commonly use a variety of independent media: dance, film/video, sound, scenography, text, in conjunction with digital/computer based technologies.

 

Careers that could be considered by graduates include:

  • Acting for Theatre, TV and Film
  • Interdisciplinary Performance Artist
  • Stage Management
  • Outreach Drama worker/workshop leader
  • Education Officer
  • Teacher

 

Alternatively, you may choose to continue your studies with an M.A. Digital Performance  or a PGCE, which would enable you to teach. (Both available at University Centre, Doncaster.)

 

Additional Information

Theatre students on full time HE courses at University Centre, Doncaster have automatic membership to Equity- the Actors’ Union. If you are an actor, stage manager, theatre designer, theatre director, choreographer, dancer, singer or variety artist you can become an Equity Student Member as soon as you start your course for only £15.

 

You will also have an opportunity to participate in new initiatives such as supporting the Children’s University, developing rehearsed play-readings with professional authors and an ongoing programme of visiting professionals for workshops and performance.
