Embedding YouTube Videos into the Blackboard VLE

YouTube videos can be embedded into the Blackboard VLE to allow easy playback without having to navigate away from Blackboard. This also allows you to organise and collate content so that learners have quick and easy access.

This guide will show you how to embed YouTube videos into the Blackboard VLE in eight easy steps!

Things to do first:

  • Load the Blackboard VLE, log in and navigate to the section you wish to add a YouTube video to.
  • Load YouTube and locate the video you wish to add to Blackboard.

  1. Go into Edit View as you would to add content as normal, and then click the Add Item button.

    Step 1

  2. Fill out the items name field as normal. In this example we will use Harvard Referencing as the topic.

    Step 2
  3. In YouTube, locate and press the Embed button to the bottom of the video you wish to add to Blackboard.

    Step 3
  4. Select and copy the code that appears in the box.

    Step 4
  5. Back in Blackboard, click on the Toggle HTML Source Mode button (that looks like two arrows side by side - <>).

    Step 5
  6. Once you are in HTML Source Mode, paste the code you copied from YouTube into the text box.

    Step 6
  7. You should now have a screen similar to the one below. Once you have pasted the code, scroll down and press OK to save your changes.

    Step 7
  8. Your YouTube video is now embedded into the Blackboard VLE and is available for learners to access directly via Blackboard.
