Video & Images

Using video excepts and images can help students understand difficult concepts, create discussion or create interest.

Always ensure that you abide by all copyright guidelines and acknowledge your sources.

The JISC Digital Media website has good advice relating to still and moving images and sounds.

Ready made videos

Websites such as YouTube and VideoJug have lots of videos available that you can use in your lessons, link to from Blackboard, or include in a PowerPoint presentation. Listed below are some popular video repositories:

TV programmes

The College has a licence to record programmes for educational purposes. If you see a good documentary let the e-Media Resources team know and they can record the episode for you. Teachers’ TV also contains a lot of material which may enhance your teaching.

Video Library

The video library allows you to browse the College’s videos by subject. It also allows you to play the videos from any staff computer. No need to book a DVD player—just click and go. The link to this resource can be found on this page of the Intranet.

Images

There are many copyright-free image banks that you can use to help illustrate your lessons. The JISC Advisory Service offers good advice for both finding and creating images via their Digital Media website.

The following image libraries are free to use, although you must check the licensing requirements of each individual image. Remember that the majority of images require referencing.

Other repositories

The NLN and JORUM repositories include images and videos that you can reuse. There are materials for many subject areas at varying levels.
