How do I use the LRCs' computers...?

 

The Learning Resource Centres offer over 160 computers for you to use for your studies. To ensure fair access the LRCs' operate a computer booking system. Please read the Computer Use Policy.

How do I logon to the computers? 

Your username will be your DC number from your College card followed by @don.ac.uk [Picture]. Your starter password will be your initials, date of birth and an exclamation mark

You will be prompted to change this immediately.

How long is each "drop in" computer session? 

In the LRC each computer session lasts 120 minutes. For health and safety reasons you will not be able to logon to another computer until 30 minutes has elapsed.

How will I know how much time I have left on the computer? 

There is a clock in the bottom right of each computer screen. You will also be warned that your session is due to close. Please ensure that you save your work regularly to a memory stick to avoid loss of work.

Can I save my work on the desktop? 

No, you will need to save your work either to a memory stick or other external device at regular intervals during the session. Work saved to the desktop will be lost when either your session ends or the computer is logged off.

Can I book a computer in advance? 

Yes, in the LRC you can book a computer up to 7 days in advance. Bookings can be made at the Reception desk.

Can I use games, chatrooms and instant messaging on the LRCs' computers?

No, the LRCs' computers are for study use only. Please read the Computer use policy.

What happens if I turn up late for my booked session or leave my computer for more than 15 mins? 

To ensure fairness to all students, if you turn up late for your session or if you leave your computer idle for more than 15 mins you will lose your booking.
