Ask us a question
Hi, as you probably guessed from the title this
is a place where we air responses to student questions that
get asked, in order to keep you in the know about the LRC
and how it all works.
So if you are struggling with something, or are just
plain curious about our services, please feel free to ask
us about anything via our comments sheet at the
bottom and we will get back to you the second we are
able.
Your Question: Why is it called
the 'Learning Resource Centre' not Library?
Our Answer: Fundamentally because its a place to
use our resources to learn! We stock a
considerably greater variety of mediums geared towards
learning and courses than the average library - from our
well used computer banks for student work, to extensive
subject journals and subject orientated book collections, the
majority of the LRC is exclusively designed to give
students the resources they need, to learn whatever they
want to learn and progress in their courses
and life.
Your Question: The Library doesn't have a book I
need, is there anything I can do?
Our Answer: Yes there is, you can
use the LRCs' Inter-Library Loan
service to order the resources you need from other local
and national libraries. You can do this from the counter
at either of the Learning Resource Centres, and if its easier
for you to fill things in before coming to us, you
can get the form that we use off the above linked
page.
Your Question: Why
can’t I access a MAC computer in the LRC?
Our Answer: The MAC
computers are considered to be “specialist equipment” and as such
access should be provided by your department. Ask your tutors if
they have any facilities to allow you to use MAC computers. If the
department wants us to provide MACs in the LRC your tutor needs to
discuss this with CITS. The LRC provides access to general
computers with standard software in order to support students’
college work.
Your Question: Can we
have more manga please?
Our Answer: We are really
glad that you are enjoying the manga collection. Last year was the
first year that we had them at the Hub so it is good that they are
so popular. Why not try out some of the graphic novels too? New
titles have been ordered for this year so keep an eye on the
display stands and the fiction collection.
Your Question: Why does the library have so little
fiction?
Our Answer: The size of our
fiction section reflects that the main aim of the
LRC is providing resources to support the courses
delivered by the College. The fiction collection is made available
to encourage students to read. So although our fiction it is added
to every year, providing the changing and growing course
materials for students across the college is always our first
priority.
