Replacement of the Heating System - University Centre LRC
February 29th, 2008
For those of you who are regular users of the LRC at the
University Centre (High Melton), you will be aware that we have
experienced problems with the heating system over recent years.
You will therefore, be pleased to know that the system is being
replaced over the next few weeks. Whist we do not expect the work
to impact upon services and/or access to the LRC, the following is
a week-by-week summary of what is likely to be happening.
Check this space for updates or changes to the heating works.
Don’t forget, if you have any questions just ask a member of
staff.
Week commencing 3rd March 2008
CITS will be moving the open access PCs in the main area of the
LRC so that the contractors can have a ‘walkway’ around the outside
of the main area to enable them to bring in equipment and machine.
Other areas of the LRC will be ‘cleared’ to allow the contractors
access.
Week commencing 10th March 2008
Site set up – contractors will prepare the site for the
commencement of work. This will mean areas of the LRC will be
sectioned-off so that contractors can work without disturbing LRC
users. The main area of work is the installation of a staircase to
the roof space so that the heating system can be accessed and
maintained. It is expected that the staircase will be delivered in
sections on Sunday 16th March.
Weeks commencing 17th March & 24th March
2008
Much of the work around this fortnight will be concerned with
the installation of the staircase within the main area of the LRC
and also the installation of new condensing units to operate the
new system. The area near the journal display units and the
reference collection is where the new staircase will be located.
The area will be screened-off so noise and dust levels will be kept
to a minimum. The remainder of the work will take place in the roof
space above ceiling level, so again, disruption should be
minimal.
Weeks commencing 31st March & 7th April
2008
Most of the ‘heavy’ work will have been completed by this stage
and the main activity will be removal of hoardings and site
clearance, with a view to the works being completed week commencing
14th April 2008.
All services are expected to run as normal, but please check the
blog for any last minute changes to the schedule.
