The Learning Resource Centres are here to help support your
course requirements. Each subject area is supported by a
subject librarian
whose role is to ensure that your courses are fully
suported. Listed below are some examples of the
type of support we can provide and the ways in which you can
reciprocate to ensure a good quality service for all. A full

Making resources available
Please keep your Subject Librarian up to date with
any course developments, reading lists and any other
course documentation. In return your Subject Librarian
will:
- Purchase resources for your courses, including books, ebooks,
journals, multi-media and databases
- Recommend new books and new editions for reading
lists
- Suggest materials for purchase
- Recommend approriate loan solutions for books in high
demand
- Recommend solutions for the support of online or distance
learning courses
Setting up new courses
When preparing new courses please remember to include in
your budget calculations an estimate for the Learning Resource
Centre resources your students will need. Your Subject
Librarian will be happy to help:
- Cost up your proposed resources including books, DVDs,
journals, databases and software packages
- Suggest resources for the new course
- Advise on journals & databases
Embedding information skills
The Learning Resource Centres provide a full information skills
programme for students and staff. We are especially keen to
embed information skills into courses.
You can book your students in for any of the following
tutorials, just contact your LRC or subject librarian:
- Welcome show & quiz
- Finding and using books
- Finding and using journal articles
- Using and evaluating e-resources
- Harvard referencing
- Dissertation skills
E-learning support
Subject librarians are also able to help you with basic
e-learning support. So if you want to learn how to embed
podcasts, videos, images and online games in your teaching and are
not sure where to start please contact them. Your
Subject Librarian can also help you to:
- Find ready made e-resources
- Map e-resources to your curriculum
- Add materials to Blackboard
