Degree Courses Take Off

Centre Doncaster's advert at Robin Hood Aiport.
Places at University Centre Doncaster
are filling up fast – with more people seeing what it has to offer
than ever before.
The centre is advertising its ‘£2,400 towards
your degree’ programme across the borough, urging local talent to
stay in the area and gain a degree in their chosen field.
First buses are travelling across town
displaying the message and cinema-goers are also greeted with the
message before they settle down to watch the latest
blockbusters.
Visitors to Robin Hood Airport and Doncaster
Train Station are also told of the incentives on offer by studying
at the centre.
Two bursaries, available this September, are
aimed at keeping talent local by rewarding students with up to
£2,400 towards their degree.
And fees for the centre, operated by Doncaster
College, are lower than almost every university in the country at
£2,700 per year.
The Doncaster Education City Bursary is
available to any such higher education student who studied at Level
3, either at Doncaster College, Dearne Valley College or any
secondary school in the Doncaster Council area in the past two
years and is worth £400 a year.
The Doncaster College Bursary is available to
any such higher education student who is in receipt of any
means-tested support from their Local Authority and is also worth
£400 a year. Students can qualify for both bursaries.
Fees and bursaries for part-time higher
education students enrolling from 2008 onwards are usually
calculated as a proportion of the full-time fee and bursary,
dependant on how long it takes to complete the programme.
Places are still left on degree courses this
September and prospective students are being urged to call the
Clearing Hotline on 0800 358 7474 to find out
whether they are eligible for a place on one of the centre’s many
courses.
Courses offered at the centre include
Scriptwriting, Business Computing, Construction, Art and Design,
Dance, Music Technology, Law and Criminology, English, Travel and
Tourism, Sport and much more. Courses take place at either the £65m
Hub campus or the countryside campus at High Melton.
Dr Mark Mabey said: “Don’t panic if you don’t
get the results you quite hoped for – we still have places
available on most courses so if you give us a call on our hotline,
our team of experts will be able to give you an answer straight
away as to whether you are eligible for a place.
“We are committed to keeping talent locally
and that is why we have increased our bursaries. It is worth
staying in Doncaster to get a degree – both academically and
financially.”
