Doncaster College Delivery Impresses Delegation
The Chinese delegation at The Hub
A chinese delegation of college principals has been
wowed by the facilities on offer for technology students at
Doncaster College.
The delegation from Chonqing visited the College on Wednesday,
July 22 as part of a project to link colleges in Yorkshire and the
Zhejiang Province of China.
They were especially interested in the electronic delivery of
the College’s engineering provision, including assessment. College
lecturer Brian Pendleton and technician Dave Preston showcased how
the expert equipment is used to aid students in their work, with
the Chinese suitably impressed.
A Doncaster College spokesman said: “The delegation were
introduced to our Rapid Prototyper and told how the students input
data via a computer program and then task the Prototyper to produce
an accurate, solid object to the exact dimensions specified in the
program.
“We also demonstrated the logical progression of the learner
journey and assessment techniques, from the use of simple pneumatic
circuits to more complex electronically controlled circuits”.
“The delegation was particularly interested in the energy
efficiency savings created by the use of latest inverter drive
units used in industry. The demonstration highlighted how students
can monitor the output of a motor by use of an oscilloscope and a
non-contact optical tachometer.”
Doncaster College runs a host of mechanical, electrical,
electronic engineering and trade courses up to honours degree level
from its Hub base. Further details can be obtained by calling 0800
