Lee Haslam, the internationally renowned DJ and cutting-edge trance producer visited University Centre Doncaster recently to talk to an audience of music students.

Lee, who hails from Doncaster and once went to the College, has forged a successful career in the music industry and was invited to pass on the benefit of his knowledge by course tutor Graham Thorne.

Students heard Lee talk about his passion for music and the dedication and hard work needed to succeed in the industry. They heard about some practical issues on how to put on an event, advice on developing a fan base through social media and stressing the need to ‘create a sound of your own’.

This was followed by a question and answer session.

Lee came to the College in the early 1990's intent on becoming a nursery school teacher but changed direction when his tapes were heard by a local promoter and he started working for Mastermix.

Lee, who was nominated for a Brit Award for Best International Breakthrough Act in 2004, reckons, "If I'd known what lay ahead in my life then I would have done a music course at College!"
