Safety Day
Hundreds of learners attended a wide variety of safety
presentations and workshops.
At the end of last year, Doncaster College Student’s
Union held a ‘Police Personal Safety Day’ as part of the Stay Safe
week. It was an enormous success with over 600 learners attending
presentations.
The aim of the day was to highlight the importance of staying
safe in the community and to enable learners to see how the police,
with the tools and resources at their disposal, try to make that
happen. The intention was also to challenge the opinion of learners
and show how some of their actions may not keep them safe, and how
some of these actions can affect others, and then to encourage them
to make the right choices.
The day comprised of a range of activities including a police
sniffer dog demonstration, which was very popular and informative,
and a ‘Gun’s and Knives take Lives’ talk and presentation in the
drama hall, which was particularly graphic, thought provoking and
hard hitting.
Other activities included the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue
‘Subaru’ driving simulator, a fire engine demonstration, knife arch
demonstration and an opportunity for learners to have their
postcodes and details etched onto their bikes.
