Andrea Lake, right, with Bonnie Hodge, Deputy Principal.
Andrea Lake, an Access student at Doncaster College has
won a film review competition, which was one of a number of
activities held during English and Maths week
recently.
Bonnie Hodge, Deputy Principal at Doncaster College, picked
Andrea’s winning entry out of a very strong field of 80 entrants
and a podcast.
Andrea chose to review the 1994 film version of Frankenstein,
from the gothic novel by Mary Shelley, starring Robert De Niro and
directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Andrea, who hails from Selby, said, "Thank you so much! I am
delighted and thrilled to win this particular competition.
"Writing the review made me think of a variety of different
things about films including the backdrops and costumes, etc. and
I'm going on to university to study English next year so it was a
very useful exercise and the prize of high street vouchers will
certainly come in handy at this time of year!"
The Film review competition was sponsored by the Learning
Resource Centre, The Learning Zone and the Functional Skills
Department all based at the College.
The aim of the English and Maths week was to raise awareness of
the importance of good English and Maths skills for everyday life,
as well the successful achievement of qualifications leading to
future employment.
The winning entry and some of the other entries are on display
in the Learning Resource Centre at The College's Hub campus and
there will be more English and Maths activities in the New
Year.
